Rick Thomas

1948 Willys CJ-2A , 4wd

I  purchased this 1948 Willys CJ-2A , 4wd on March 13, 2014, in Dallas Texas.

  • It had been painted white with large off road tires.
  • My son & I welded numerous pieces of steel to cover the dash that had a AM/FM stereo radio or eight track mounted at one time.
  • I converted the color to Olive Drab as specified by the military.
  • Added 3/4 inch rope on the front bumper.
  • Purchased new military tires 6x16" and original 1947 steel rims.
  • Added a wooden handled shovel mounted on the passenger side per military style.
  • The manual windshield wiper came from a 1955 VW bug.
  • Purchased and mounted side steps on the driver and passenger side.
  • Purchased a new gas tank to replace the old tank.
  • Military seat covers were purchased from a company that still makes them and a back seat frame that folds up and I added matching military seat covers  and foam.
  • Purchased a portable gas can from military surplus along with a original WWII helmet.
  • Added an US American Flag and mounted it onto the rear corner of the Jeep.
  • Researched military specifications for stencils.  Used white construction cardboard to draw out and a razor knife to cut out the stencils. Carefully taped onto the Jeep and sprayed white according to military standards.
